Molasses is the dark, sweet syrup created in the sugar cane extraction process. Since molasses is the leftover components of sugarcane after the sugar crystals are extracted, many of the plant's nutrients remain intact within the syrup. As a result, Molasses (and our Granulated Molasses) contain particularly large amounts of calcium, which promotes strong bones and teeth, as well as helps regulate heart function and muscle contraction. It is also rich in magnesium and potassium, which work with calcium to maintain proper muscle contraction and also help regulate body processes such as metabolism and heartbeat. Molasses is also rich in cancer-fighting antioxidants.
Molasses is commonly used in rum, tobacco, baked beans and popular baking recipes, such as gingerbread. Its long-term popularity is attributed to its economical nature and unique flavor profile.
